If You’re New To Bitcoin Start Here

If you’re new to Bitcoin then my Bitcoin Starter Guide is definitely a good place to start. I try to answer all of the very basic questions there including what is Bitcoin, where should you buy Bitcoin, and how do you safely store Bitcoin. It’s rather comprehensive and has a table of contents. So feel free to jump around as needed.

A Book On The Why of Bitcoin

Before we go on, I think it’s important that person fully understand why we need Bitcoin and there is no better book on why we need Bitcoin than “The Price of Tomorrow: Why Deflation is the Key to an Abundant Future” by Jeff Booth. Jeff Booth’s big thesis statement, which I agree with wholeheartedly, is that technology is inherently deflationary and only becoming exponentially more so and this reality is in conflict with our monetary system which is inflationary. Jeff then explains why if this incongruence is causing (or if not causing then certainly adding fuel to) the social instability we are seeing. He then goes on to explain why Bitcoin may be the only non-violent off ramp we have to this insanity. It’s a must read.

Podcasts

Bitcoin moves fast. As a result, outside of Twitter, podcasts are one of the best ways to stay on top of things.

First, I’m going to engage in some shameless self promotion. I have a podcast called “I’d Rather Be Right” with my co-host Luc. It’s not strictly about Bitcoin but Bitcoin comes up a lot. Other than that, it’s a lot of politics, finance, and news of the day. Or whatever we want to debate. We’ve been known to drop a few F bombs and such here and there so it’s semi NSFW. Check out our latest episode.

Now that the shameless self promotion is over, let’s continue.

If you’re new to Bitcoin, I can’t recommend the Bitcoin Fundamentals episodes of the “We Study Billionaires” podcast with Preston Pysh highly enough. (They release new episodes every Wednesday on the “We Study Billionaires” podcast feed. Also, the “We Study Billionaires” Podcast is fantastic in general, but it’s not always about Bitcoin. Now, it’s just limited to the Wednesday releases.) You can start at the beginning of the Bitcoin Fundamentals episodes and work your way forward. You’ll get a very good foundation of Bitcoin very quickly.

Another podcast I often listen to is the “What Bitcoin Did” podcast with Peter McCormack. The reason I enjoy this podcast is Peter, by his own admission, is less strong on the technical side of Bitcoin. If I’m looking for a discussion on the technical issues I will start by seeing if he has a podcast on the subject. Recently, he started releasing an ongoing “Bitcoin Tech” series and he releases those about once a month. If you’re less technical, I highly recommend searching to see if he has a podcast covering the issue and listening to it. Another thing he does that I love is that he hosts debates between Bitcoin critics and Bitcoiners and he really does do his best to stay neutral and really tries to understand the Bitcoin critic’s point of view.

Twitter Follows

As I mentioned above, Twitter is one of best places to learn about Bitcoin and stay on top of what’s going on. Please note there are others I follow and some that offer highly valuable content, such as podcasts, and are listed on this page elsewhere. These are the ones I feel are offering great content specifically on Twitter. With that being said, in no particular order, here are some of my favorite Bitcoiners to follow on Twitter. Adam Back, Plan B, Preston Pysh, Jeff Booth, Pierre Rochard, Michael Saylor, Robert Breedlove, Gigi, Allen Farrington, Nic Carter, Caitlin Long, Willy Woo, Matt Odell, Stephan Livera, Samson Mow, Stephen Chow, Alex Gladstein, Jack Mallers, Charles Edwards, Brian Stofka, Lyn Alden, and Luke Gromen. And me (but my Twitter content is often subpar compared to these others).

More To Come. This is a work in progress!
